RIM Moulding
What is RIM Moulding?
RIM Moulding or Reaction Injection Moulding. Is the process of using specialised resin dispensing machines to mix a two component liquid Polyurethane consisting of a Polyol and Isocyanate and injecting it directly into closed tooling.
The mixing of the two components occurs at the mixing head, directly at the opening of the feed sprue of the tool or mould.
Depending on the selected material, a reaction between the two part system can begin within minutes, coursing the liquid to begin to solidify quickly due to its short pot life.
This process is ideal for low to medium volume production runs of quantities of anything from 1 off’s to 1000 off or more.
Materials available range from soft to hard rubber shore A, to shore D poly prop and abs simulants with fibre glass fill, UL94 VO fire retardant, or high temperature polyurethane.
